Books are my window on the world, this one, the next and those that don’t exist except on the page and in the imagination. Eleven weeks into my new life in Holland I decided to compile a Goodreads list of reading I’m looking forward to over the next few years.

Why did I create a new list when there were already multiple lists such as “Best Dutch Literature” “Best Fiction Set in the Netherlands” and “Dutch Literary Canon”?

I wanted a list that crossed genres, included children’s lit and off-beat items, as well as books only partially set in the Netherlands (e.g. The Golden Finch and The Fault In Our Stars).

Thus I direct you to my new Holland/Netherlands reading list and request that you place your votes at this link. Currently The Girl with the Pearl Earring, The Fault in Our Stars, and The Diary of Anne Frank top the list. The Wheel on the School, The Black Tulip, Confessions of an Ugly Step-sister, The Un-Dutchables, and The Hiding Place are among the next top contenders.

Your vote counts!
