Finger in the Chest (#SoulFul Sunday)

06 Mar

Sometimes lyrics press into my chest, a single finger that almost hurts, saying “This is for you.”An old time chorus repeats “There’s power in the blood.” There’s power in music as well. “Power Ballad” is a well known term and further evidence of songs that move our hearts.

For your #Soulful Sunday consideration, lyrics that never fail to resonate for me. “All I see, it could never make me happy” and “I feel stuck watching history repeating.” This song moves from life description to a prayer that I pray each time I sing these words whether with my voice or in my head.

[Dear Lord] Let me know that you hear me. Let me know your touch. Let me know that you love me. Let that be enough.

What resonates for you?

I wish I had what I needed
To be on my own
‘Cause I feel so defeated
And I’m feeling alone

And it all seems so helpless
And I have no plans
I’m a plane in the sunset
With nowhere to land

And all I see
It could never make me happy
And all my sand castles
Spend their time collapsing

Let me know that you hear me
Let me know your touch
Let me know that you love me
Let that be enough

It’s my birthday tomorrow
No one here could know
I was born this Thursday

And I feel stuck
Watching history repeating
Yeah, who am I?
Just a kid who knows he’s needy

Let me know that you hear me
Let me know your touch
Let me know that you love me
And let that be enough

Let me know that you hear me
Let me know your touch
Let me know that you love me
And let that be enough
